14th August: Our Independence Day

On August 14, we celebrate our Independence Day, marking the day we gained freedom not only from oppressive rulers but also from humiliation. This significant day in 1947 bestowed upon us a distinct identity and our own values. Pakistan emerged as a sovereign state, and this day is a tribute to the efforts of our national heroes and the respect and recognition we earned. As Muslims, we take pride in our values, traditions, and religion. This day is celebrated with immense satisfaction and joy, as it signifies our freedom to live according to our beliefs in a separate nation. Pakistan, a democratic parliamentary federal Islamic republic, is comprised of four provinces: Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Independence Day is a national holiday in Pakistan, observed with flag-raising ceremonies, tributes to national heroes, and fireworks, particularly in the capital city of Islamabad.
The President and Prime Minister deliver speeches highlighting governmental achievements, future goals, and, echoing the words of Quaid-i-Azam, emphasize “Unity, Faith, and Discipline.” The day begins with flag-raising ceremonies in Islamabad and major cities across Pakistan, followed by a parade and the changing of the guard at Quaid-i-Azam’s mausoleum. Citizens visit national monuments such as Minar-e-Pakistan, illuminated to commemorate our independence from British rule. At Wagah Border, flag-raising ceremonies are conducted in silence during the national anthem, followed by a military parade. Prominent figures like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, and Sir Syed Ahmad Khan are celebrated in Pakistan’s history. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, known as Quaid-e-Azam, is revered as the founder of Pakistan. Allama Iqbal inspired Muslims through his poetry to seek their own identity, while Sir Syed Ahmad Khan advanced the Muslim community by establishing educational institutions.
The sacrifices made for our independence were driven by a desire to practice Islam freely and fulfill religious duties without oppression. Countless lives were lost in the pursuit of a land where Muslims could worship freely and independently. As citizens of a free Pakistan, it is essential to honor the values and principles of those who fought for our freedom. We live in a nation that now enjoys the fruits of their sacrifices. It is our duty to contribute wholeheartedly to our country’s development, remembering the sacrifices of our ancestors and national leaders who secured our freedom. Let us dedicate ourselves with the same passion and commitment that our national heroes displayed.
We must uphold our integrity and resist any attempts by dominant powers to undermine our sovereignty. On this Independence Day, let us reflect on our plans, actions, and their outcomes. We should pray for the continued prosperity and defense of our sacred land and pledge to protect it until our last breath. God bless our sacred land. God bless Pakistan! Ameen.

Happy Independence Day!
